NY Met Opera: Carmen (live screening)

3 February 2024 @ 5:55 pm

Adults £15 / Under 18 £2

The Met’s second production of the year is one of opera’s most enduringly powerful works, Bizet’s Carmen.

Acclaimed English director Carrie Cracknell makes her Met debut, reinvigorating the classic story and uncovering issues that could not be more relevant today: gendered violence, abusive labour structures, and the desire to break through societal boundaries.

Dazzling young mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina leads a powerhouse quartet of stars in the complex and volatile title role, alongside tenor Piotr Beczała as Carmen’s troubled lover Don José, soprano Angel Blue as the loyal Micaëla, and bass-baritone Kyle Ketelsen as the swaggering Escamillo. Daniele Rustioni conducts Bizet’s heart-pounding score.

This live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, bringing opera to cinemas across the globe.

This stunning, modern production features exclusive, live backstage footage and cast interviews shown during the intervals. Buffet served with interval drinks. Feel free to dress for the occasion!
