When Major General Sir Laurence New CB, CBE, then Lieutenant-Governor of the Isle of Man, was asked by John Bethell whether he had a request for any particular star to appear at the Mananan Festival, he asked if Julian Lloyd Webber could be included. What he called 'the miracle' was achieved. As he said, "I was working hard on my cello playing at the time, and was both impressed and deflated that Julian made it all seem so effortless." *
